Northumbria University London

Northumbria University is a public university that is known for its research and academic excellence. It is located in Newcastle in the United Kingdom. It is ranked at 401-500 in Times Higher Education  (THE) (2022) and 651-700 in the QS (2023) World University Rankings. It was called Newcastle Polytechnic, formed in 1969 by fusing three colleges.

The Polytechnic became the City College of Education in 1974, followed by the Northern Counties College of Education in 1975. In 1992, it got university status, becoming the Northumbria University. It has earned several accreditations, including AACSB. The institution has a 32,000-strong student population, with 3,300 foreign students on the main campuses and 3,000 more studying in their countries. It has 222,000 graduates from 176 global countries.

There are two campuses in Newcastle, including one at Coach Lane. There is a campus at Liverpool as well. There are several research and innovation centers and units, along with research programs in fields like construction, technology, process and management, civil engineering: heritage and future, cultural negotiation of science, visual and material cultures, and contemporary art research forum (CARF), and many others.

There are four faculties: Engineering and Environment, Arts, Design and Social Sciences, Health and Life Sciences, and Business and Law. Several departments include Computer and Information Sciences, Applied Sciences, Geography and Environmental Sciences, Law, Business, Humanities, Psychology, Sports, Exercise and Rehabilitation, and more.

Famous alumni include the youngest minister in Spain, Bibiana Aido; Police and Crime Commissioner at Northumbria Police, Dame Vera Baird; singer Tunde Baiyewu; Chief Executive at BAFTA, Amanda Berry; and Steve Cram, iconic British athlete.

There are several career services including the Graduate Futures program, which offers employability guidance, inputs, careers clinic appointments, and more. There are various self-help tools and resources for students, including books, Careers Online, Jobs Online, and various career events. Students get help with jobs, placements, and internships. There is a dedicated Placements and Internships team as well.
